Wink, Wave and Nod

Where are the smiles? Coming from a tiny “hickalicious” town in Nebraska you are accustom to every passerby waving and smiling. There is a major difference here. People are very noninvasive. From my observations I’ve seen that people here do not smile at strangers. I am use to not only smiling, but also striking up an exchange of pleasantries. I hope it doesn’t sound like I am bashing on the culture here, I am just not use to it.

I’ve heard that some other cultures find us Americans to be phony. Well, some are. However, some of us genuinely want to brighten someone’s day with a friendly gesture. Just keep in mine: never frown; you never know when someone is falling in love with your smile.
