"The Last Guy in Line"

The Story of Berlin museum was a thorough examination of the history of Berlin. This city has gone through so much change, and not just in the last 100 years. The city has experienced Kaisers, Hitler, communism, the Wall, and many other things. One of my favorite exhibits was a staircase descent into fascism, with murals illustrating the troubling rise to power of Hitler. This city has worked hard to erase that image in the minds of the world but I think the museum serves as an important reminder of what has happened. There was a street lined with books to symbolize the burning and a glass that was shattered as a reminder of the events that started the Holocaust.

The cold war exhibits were likewise interesting. They were murals to show how people in the east and west felt about the Wall, as well as several feet of the wall. The most fascinating part was the cold war bunker. It was a claustrophobic, cramped and disgusting bunker that only held 3600 people but crammed them in there like sardines. The bunker was just to appease the citizens, as they could only stay there 14 days after a nuclear attack. The museum was a great learning experience about Berlin.
