Headband sunburn line across my forhead.

Today was a beautiful day in Bavaria. We traveled to Fussen to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle. Our two hour train ride was obviously long, but three-fourths of the way through we got to see the Alps for the first time.

On the coolest bikes I have ever seen (sea foam green, beach cruiser type) we got to travel through the forests surrounding the castle. Everything was so green there! It was the real grass green that people usually don’t notice; but with all of the blooming foliage around it was hard to miss. Some of us were able to jump into the original Swan Lake, while others opted to just dip their feet.

Our trail guide, Brad (hello, Brad!), who also could be recognized as a professional photographer after our group got done, led us up the mountain to see the castle. The hike was just as beautiful as the bike ride. So many waterfalls and boulders made up the landscape I truly felt like I was in a fairy tale. After a quick tour of the castle a few of us continued our hike up a little more to see Neuschwanstein from Mary’s bridge. This was definitely the best part of the tour. Even though the backside of the castle was covered with scaffolding the scenery was breathtaking.

A brief stop for a killer "jumping" picture and we were back on the subway headed toward our last night in Germany.

Sorry about your forehead.

On a lighter note, the scenery surrounding the Alps was absolutely breathtaking. The amount of sprawling green space was a refreshing change after basically only being in the city life scene in Germany.

I would have to say my favorite part of the day (even though the entire day was a blast) was the bike ride through the various farms and forestry areas. When we got to Swan Lake I was definitely one of the gals that jumped in along with Jess and Mary. It was so much fun! A little bit chilly since the temperature wasn't exactly warm and the lake was FREEZING... but it still felt amazing!

I think we all got some sun today, maybe not as epic as your burn... but "rosie" nonetheless. The weather in general was sort of odd in the Alps anyways. It was chilly and windy, then sunny, then cloudy and sunny again! With all the temperature changes it makes the sunscreen decision a little more tricky.

The headband sunburn was epic, no doubt. The Alps were absolutely beautiful. The swim was well worth it!

Thank you, Brad, for a great day!
