A New Friend...Well, sort of...

As Emma and I were at the Literature House today wiriting in our journals, we had a friendly little sparrow visit us. He was not scared of us trying to shoe him away nor was he afraid to eat off my plate. He approached us as if it were no big deal at all. It was actually quite funny to us both. I had ordered the delicious apple strudel and once I was done, I set my plate to the side. There were a few pieces of apple still left on the plate but I never thought I would have to share my dessert. The sparrow flew to the seat right next to me. He sat there for a moment looking around, and before I could shoe him away he took a piece of apple and off he flew. Emma and I sat there with our jaws dropped. We could not believe our eyes. The couple sat next to us laughed and all of a sudden he was back for more. I quickly tried to cover my plate with my napkin but the sparrow was too quick for me. He snatched a tiny piece on the uncovered part of the plate. There was nothing we could do but laugh and go on writing in our journals. It wasn’t even 5 minutes later and our little friend was back again. Only this time he was at the table of the couple next to us lookin around for food. I have never seen such a hungry little sparrow.

I guess birds in Germany aren’t afraid to take food sitting unattended whether you’re in a beer garden or cafĂ©. It makes you wonder if these birds are finding enough food in Berlin. I highly dout they have any trouble thoug. I hope my new little friend was satisfied. I just wished he had helped me pay for half the bill.

I think the moral of the story is if your name has "Kayla" in it, don't leave your food where birds can get it.
