Well, Amsterdam was a little bit of a surprise I guess you could say, but a good one over all. I will admit that I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea of having to stay over night in Amsterdam in the beginning. I already had the mindset of going home and this wasn’t part of the plan. I guess not everything is part of the plan and you just have to take it as it comes, whether it may be bad…or good. It was meant to be.
So once we got to the hotel and rested up, a few of us decided to venture out and check out Amsterdam and the famous Red Light District. I’ve always heard about the Red Light District, but I never thought I would actually get to see it in person. It was definitely an experience on its own. My favorite part about Amsterdam was the canals between the sidewalks and the buildings. It had a very close-knit feel, which I liked a lot. Another bonus of having our flight delayed was all the free stuff we received such as – hotel, food, and $250 free flight. After all that, it’s hard to still be bitter about the whole ordeal. I would like to go back some day…maybe a bike ride around the city?

I think its quite ironic how the group that didn't have ridiculously early flights would be the ones to not get home on time. When we read the delayed time "8:00" my first thought was, "well alright, that's not too bad". Then i heard someone say "military time" and I was brought back to European reality. My instant reaction was laughter. I mean, what else can you really do? We were going to have to spend the night in Amsterdam.
We were given hotel accommodations, some free euros for airport (which a few of us used for Starbucks asap...) and some free hotel food. It's definitely an experience I wasn't expecting but it isn't one that I regret at all.
When you are traveling abroad you have to take things as they come and go with the flow, live in the moment. If you never live in the moment and take in all that you can, you will never truly have the full travel experience.
I for one, am thankful for how safe our entire travel itinerary went. A couple days after we arrived home safely I read about the Air France flight that disappeared over the Atlantic. We are truly lucky to have made it safely back to our homes and I am praying for those families who are being effected by the missing plane.
